Chronic Periodontitis results in loss of bone around the teeth, and formation of pus pockets and inflammation.
Mucogingival Defects can result in recession of the gum exposing the tooth, leading to sensitivity and possible decay.
Cosmetic Perioplastic procedures may be indicated when teeth need to be lengthened of shortened by adding or subtracting gum tissue to create a normal appearance.
Missing Teeth may be replaced by a titanium root form implant, if there is adequate bone.
Types of Treatments
Correction of chronic peridontitis may involve a deep cleaning with local anesthetic, or it may require corrective periodontal surgery to reshape the gum and bone. Bone grafts may be done to regenerate bone lost in certain sites.
Mucogingival defects may require a tissue graft. Health tissue can be moved from an adjacent tooth to an area where the gum is missing. A small section of gum tissue can be moved from other areas in the mouth to where the gum is missing. If large areas of gum are missing or multiple teeth have recession, we can use freeze-dried tissue to replace missing tissue.
Cosmetic perioplastic surgery may involve the removal of excess gum tissue, or recontouring of excess gum tissue and bone. At other times it may involve adding bone or gum tissue.
Implants are used to replace missing teeth if there is adequate height and width of bone. A titanium root is placed, and four to six months later a crown is placed by your by your dentist on the implanted titanium root.
