The ambiance was charming, but the owner is absent of business ethics. A friend requested our group of 10 join her at the Oscar Swan Geneva for the brunch for her celebration. She made reservations and was told the brunch and a tour for @ $25 pp. and included tax and tip.
On being told of the agreement, I reviewed the brunch menu on their web site and found their $14.95 brunch included
Fresh Fruit Salad
Specialty Breads, Scones, Bagels
Phil' Fresh scrambled Eggs
Honey Glazed Country Ham
Apple-wood smoked Bacon and Sausage
Blueberry Pancake with Maple Syrup
Herb roasted Little Potatoes
Cheese Blintzes topped with fruit compote
Coffee, assorted teas and Juices
Knowing this, $25 for brunch, tax, tip and tour seemed appropriate.
We arrived there on July 14. Our brunch served no ham, bacon, sausage, pancake, potatoes, blintzes, or juices. The scrambled eggs were replaced with 2 small quiches set on the buffet, similar to those sold at Mariano's for $5. This means that less than half of the items on the menu were set out. Because
no one had memorized the web menu, we only surmised that this brunch was unexpectedly light. At the end of the meal, we requested our tour. Our server informed us that he is the one who provides the tour but did not have the time that day. When we stated that our charge of $25 included a tour, therefore our bill should be reduced, he said there is never a charge for the tour, it is always complimentary. On us stating the brunch is to be $14.95, he stated that we had agreed to pay $25. Apparently, a verbal contract with Oscar Swan needs to be fulfilled by only the paying customer and not Oscar Swan. We would have stood our ground with objections, but that would have ruined the celebration gift our guest had personally selected.
On returning home, I returned to the web site and confirming that our served brunch was not the menu brunch, emailed my dissatisfaction with the unsatisfactory performance and overcharging by Oscar Swan. And... as you can guess ~ they have not responded.
We cannot recommend Oscar Swan, we will not return to this establishment. BTW, while charming, the grounds are nothing special ~ and certainly the lack of business ethics makes the entire establish unattractive.
