When you hear the word "family," what image is conjured in your mind? Is it a Rockwellian portrait of Thanksgiving, complete with Grandma bringing in a steaming turkey? Or maybe a picture of a relaxing vacation filled with time together? For some, family means a husband and wife loving and caring for each other through good years and bad, while for many singles, family is about friends who love and support one another through the trials and victories of life. But for everyone, "family" creates a feeling of togetherness.
Here at First Baptist Church, God is forming a family...a family of diverse individuals, young and old, rich and poor, healthy and weak...who together have bought passage on a ship that is heading into the sunrise of God's love. For us, family means mutual support...unconditional love...ready forgiveness.
At First Baptist Church, being a family means we encourage one another as we seek to love God more deeply, love each other more passionately, and serve the world more faithfully each day. It means worshipping together...connecting with one another in prayer and fellowship...growing together in Christ-likeness...and reaching out together to a world that is longing to see the face of Christ in our faces.
Come and look at our church family; take a moment, pause and look around and see how we interact. Do you see the love of Christ in them? Can you perceive growth in Christ-likeness in the smiles, the proud arm of a father around his child, the assured gaze of a young teen who knows that Christ is the center of her life?
We are a family, committed to sailing on this ship together, carried along by the wind of God's Spirit as we seek to serve Him each day.
