AETC Chicago is located on the south side of Belmont Ave, one block east of Pulaski in the Shoppes of Shoemaker Square. Designated "Emergency" parking in our parking lot. We also have a large free parking lot on the roof of the building.
Dr. Justin Allen, Diplomate, American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Cardiology), has joined the medical staff at Animal Emergency and Treatment Centers.
Dr. Allen earned a bachelor’s degree (biology) at Illinois Wesleyan University in 2001 and his DVM from the University of Illinois in 2006. He then moved to Los Angeles to complete his internship at Advanced Veterinary Care Center in 2007, and completed his residency at California Animal Hospital in July 2010.
Dr. Allen is looking forward to moving back closer to home (he grew up on a farm outside of Atlanta, IL) and watching the Cubs lose in person, rather than on TV. He is excited about practicing cardiology in the Chicago-land area; “By doing a private-practice internship and residency with six cardiologists, I’ve learned a variety of approaches to veterinary cardiology. One consistent truth is that relationships with referring veterinarians are key to the successful management of cardiac disease,” he says. “Clients just feel better when they know you’ve consulted with the family vet.”
Dr. Allen’s wife, Dr. Kimberly Wu, is a general practice veterinarian. They have a Shiba Inu (Jasmine) and four cats (Peeps, Ganon, Creamy and Peanut); all were adopted at various stages of their veterinary career.
Special Interests include: cardiovascular emergencies, electrophysiology, interventional procedures, anesthesia.
Dr. Allen is available for cardiovascular consultation including echocardiography, cardiovascular emergencies (including CHF, arrhythmias, pericardial effusion), Holter monitoring, and radiographic/electrocardiographic interpretation. He will be available for interventional procedures (including pacemaker implantation, balloon valvuloplasty, and PDA occlusion) in the coming months.
About Animal Emergency & Treatment Centers:
Animal Emergency & Treatment Center (AETC) is the only independently owned, 24-hour, small-animal veterinary emergency and specialty care center in Chicago and its surrounding suburbs.
We are open round the clock, 365 days a year to heal pets, to help owners and support referring veterinarians. AETC is more than an overnight emergency center; we are a full-service specialty referral, critical care and emergency hospital. Doctors and nurses are always on hand and have extensive experience in advanced care, emergency medicine and trauma.
We are a unique, single practice made up of a team of dedicated veterinary professionals that work together – each bringing a special component to pet care. Our highly skilled veterinarians and staff support and respect each others’ contribution to the healing of companion pets and the welfare of their owners, and we are in full partnership with referring veterinarians.
Our dedicated specialists are board certified in Surgery, Internal Medicine, and Critical Care, the highest levels of accreditation in our profession. Our team of highly experienced emergency doctors are the backbone of our collaborative care model. Our certified veterinary technicians (nurses) are experienced and passionate about caring for pets. AETC’s management team fosters strong values, mentors our staff and continually seeks new ways to improve our clinical care.
Our services are designed to meet the unique needs of each patient, client and primary referring veterinarian. We provide the best possible treatment with extraordinary value, compassion, regular communication and personal care.
