IDEA is, at the root, an architecture and design firm. But we are also experienced as developers, contractors, inspectors and engineers. We are completely involved in every aspect of our projects. The concept of IDEA was first envisioned nearly a decade ago by two architecture students at the Illinois Institute of Technology. After years of discussing shortcomings in new buildings, in the building industry, and in architecture firms themselves; we began to create a concept of a new type of firm that reflected what we felt an architecture and design firm should be. A firm that is not only about the highest quality product like so many of the better firms out there, but also about controlling construction costs and redefining the role of the architect in the building industry today. IDEA is not about building what everyone else is building. Nor is it about big egos, large budgets, and outrageous designs. It is not about spending countless hours preparing reams of detailed drawings and handing them off to a contractor to build either. IDEA is about building the most tasteful and innovatively designed, solidly constructed contemporary buildings and spaces at the most affordable prices. It is about listening to and learning from contractors, manufacturers, clients and buyers. It is about understanding the real estate market, working with the contractors out in the field, and inspecting and understanding existing buildings. It is about making the most functional and psychologically uplifting homes and offices while encompassing all the many other aspects of making spaces for people.
