What Is Chiropractic?
Chiropractic is a branch of healthcare rooted in the scientific fact that the human nervous system controls every function of the body, from your individual cells to your tissues and organs. It is the most popular form of alternative medicine, and focuses on nurturing your body's ability to heal itself. Chiropractic care aims to treat the underlying causes of your pain or illness and allow your body to return to a natural state of health, rather than simply treat your symptoms with drugs or unnecessary surgery.
Think of it this way: your nervous system is like a computer network, connecting your brain to your spinal cord, and radiating out through your body in a complex system of billions of nerve cells that receive and transmit impulses between your brain and the rest of your body. While your brain is protected by your skull, your spinal cord is covered by 24 vertebrae that move. When, for whatever reason, these vertebrae move abnormally or are out of place, your spinal cord can become irritated, disrupting the normal flow of impulses throughout your body. This is called the Vertebral Subluxation Complex or Subluxation Syndrome. The result can cause you a great deal of pain and a wide range of associated health problems.
How Does It Work?
Chiropractic is the science of figuring out where you are experiencing spinal joint dysfunction, and then correcting the dysfunction. This is done by using specifically directed, carefully controlled pressure to move your spinal bones back toward a more healthful position or motion. Such spinal adjustments are often accompanied by additional supportive care, like nutritional advice, exercise, physical therapy or other conservative methods of treatment based on your individual needs.
Chiropractors, like Dr. Cabrera, specialize in caring for your bones, your nerves, your muscles, and all the ligaments, tendons and soft tissues that connect the parts of your body. To become a Doctor of Chiropractic requires four years of post-graduate college education and countless hours of carefully supervised instruction and focused effort. In practice, chiropractic care becomes an art, dedicated to the miraculous beauty and ingenuity of the human body.
I had frequent headaches, muscle spasms in my neck and back, extreme fatigue, and loss of movement in my neck...the pain became so severe that I just couldn't go on this way anymore. Within two weeks of treatment, my headaches lessened and then disappeared.
