Briefly...

It has been a very busy year. Lot of changes taking place, both in our store and in the technology we sell.

We've gotten bigger! About a year ago we took over the store next to us. We had a door installed between the two stores and we're still trying to figure out the best way to use the new space. We moved most of our new products over to the new section, but we know there is more we can do. Time has been our biggest obstacle.

Since we moved over the new products to the new part we've been trying to keep several new systems on display. These are system we built. While they are intended to give customers an idea of our products, they seem to sell pretty quick. Frequently, we have problems getting replacement systems built up in a timely manner. (it is one thing to build a system for display, but something totally different when a client is waiting for their new system.)

Windows 7 officially hit the streets on October 22nd. Windows 7 is the logical evolution of Windows Vista. One of the nicest things about it is the hardware requirements are much less than Vista. More like the logical upgrade from Windows XP. We've been working with it since the Beta stage and have been very impressed with it's performance and stability. While a lot of people have been bad-mouthing Vista, I like it. It has been stable without too many quirks. Over time, the updates have helped it become even better. Of course, I have a big, fat computer to run it on. I think that makes a big difference in the user's experience with Vista.

I currently have Windows 7 installed on an Eee PC netbook. I'm running a T91 tablet with an Atom 1.3GHz processor and 2GB of RAM. It has a 16GB solid state hard drive, so I'm not storing much on it. I use it primarily to browse the Web and to get back to my desktop at the store. So it is a glorified terminal, but it is so nice and convenient.

Vickie is running Windows 7 on her Eee PC netbook. She has a 1105HA with an Atom 1.6GHz processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. She is using her netbook pretty much the same way she uses her full size notebook. Lot of browsing, e-mail, and the occasional letter. We both like them better with Windows 7 then we did with the XP Home they both came with.

Intel is pushing their new I5 and I7 processors. We were a little confused about some of the specifications, compatibilities, and hardware involved. Got a lot of clarification at the Intel Channel Conference. Still trying to figure out the best deals since there are so many variables involved. As always, we're still trying to get the most bang for the buck. Got our first I7s and I5s in last week. Also got a couple of boards for them. Still checking to see what combinations give the most bang for the buck, so the selection should be growing.

Bill's Radio and Television, located right behind us, have a couple of new televisions on display. We took he liberty of hooking them up to our new computers and were quite impressed with the results. You can actually read the text in the Internet Explorer without having to make everything very large. Media files are clear and crisp. Nothing like having a 42" monitor! I want one, please! They can pretty well get the full line of LG products, so he should be able to get whatever size television you are looking for.
