Return to the roots of golf at Shepherd's Crook, the Zion Park District owned and operated layout that offers a passage back to golf's heritage.
Opened in August, 1999 Shepherd's Crook has earned rave reviews as a course that is both challenging and exciting to play. Designed by Keith Foster, who has designed some of the most interesting courses built in the last 10 years, is a links-style course that creates a feeling of playing Ireland's Ballybunion or Waterville courses. Shepherd's Crook's design reflects the golden era of golf course architecture of the 1920's and 30's with bentgrass fairways, tees, and greens.
"Shepherd's Crook is routed with classic and strategic design principles that cut features naturally to the terrain. The vision of Shepherd's Crook returns golfers to the game's past" (Keith Foster, Architect for Shepherd's Crook Golf Course).
What People Are Saying About Shepherd's Crook!
"The Zion Park District's new course might be one of the best bargains in town. The links-style design offers several challenging and interesting holes. Yet it is priced affordably, ... making it well worth the drive."
(Chicago Tribune, May 31, 2000)
"Shepherd's Crook is everything a good golf course should be. The design is straight-forward, with generous landing areas, enough trouble around the greens to get your attention, and beautiful bunkering. Shepherd's Crook is a fine golf course in every way that counts."
(Gary D'Amato, Milwaukee Journal Sentinel)
(Golf for Women Magazine)
"I fell in love with Shepherd's Crook. It is a thinking person's golf course, where length isn't as necessary as the ability to size up the options it offers and make a wise decision. At times, it requires target golf, but there are plenty of opportunities to hit your driver, too."
(Phil Kosin, Editor, Chicagoland Golf Magazine)
