We are Radiation Oncologists. Radiation Oncologists specialize in the use of ionizing radiation (high energy X-rays) to treat cancer. Your Radiation Oncologist works closely with your Medical Oncologist in the comprehensive treatment of your cancer.
The advanced treatment of cancer requires careful and thorough evaluation and staging. Our Imaging Center provides the facility and personnel to accomplish this efficiently.
Computed tomography has long been the mainstay of diagnostic imaging in cancer patients. It offers noninvasive and accurate results for most disease processes. Our spiral or helical CT scanner allows us to obtain images through multiple phases of enhancement which optimizes cancer detection and diagnosis.
Positron Emission Tomography (PET) is the most sensitive functional imaging technique available in clinical practice. PET scanning utilizes fluorodevty glucose (FDG) which has no toxic or pharmacological effects. Cancer cells undergo accelerated glycolysis compared to normal cells. That difference accounts for the difference in intensity on a PET scan. PET scans are useful for the detection of cancer, the differential diagnosis of lesions found on other scans, disease staging, therapeutic response to treatment and disease recurrence.
Radiation therapy utilizes ionizing radiation to treat cancer. Our linear accelerator allows us to treat all types of cancer. In addition, we are also able to provide radiobiologicals for the treatment of specific forms of hematologic malignancies.
Our Pharmacy provides for the special needs of our patient population. Oral chemotherapy drugs which may not be readily available at your local pharmacy are routinely available. Additional treatment related support medications including antiemetics and antibiotics are also available. We accept all major insurance plans including Medicare reimbursement of chemotherapy.
Our Treatment areas provide comfortable, warm environments where patients can receive their therapy in the company of their family under the care and supervision of caring individuals.
