After thirty years of neglect Springdale Cemetery is again being properly nurtured and restored to its former stature as the final resting place for over seventy-eight thousand who helped build Peoria, including many leaders who contributed greatly to the grand history of the area.
Springdale Historic Preservation Foundation, the organization which deserves much of the credit for Springdale 's rescue and survival, was instrumental in getting the City of Peoria , County of Peoria , and Peoria Park District to recognize the urgent need to save Springdale. The City, County, and Park District entered into an Intergovernmental Agreement and agreed to provide financial operating support until Springdale is self-sustaining. The agreement also states the City of Peoria is the owner of the Cemetery and created the Springdale Cemetery Management Authority, consisting of nine members appointed by the above four entities.
Today, Springdale, a municipally-owned not-for-profit cemetery, is prepared to fulfill its commitments of perpetual care and respect and is determined to be the clear cemetery of choice in this community.
