From IDOT Award Presentation: Chastain was selected for the design for the reconstruction of approximately 1 mile of I-74 in East Peoria from the Illinois River to the TP&W Railroad. This project consisted of the removal and redesign of eastbound and westbound I-74 as well as the Riverfront Drive Interchange.
Chastain provided design and construction engineering services for the removal and replacement of the Richmond Avenue Bridge over CN Railroad. The bridge was replaced with a 3-span, pre-stressed concrete superstructure, cast-in-place piers and retained earth abutments on concrete caissons.
Chastain performed Phase II design services for the preparation of design plans for three bridges in I-355 interchange. Chastain was a subconsultant to Crawford Murphy and Tilly, Inc. for the Illinois State Toll Highway Authority.
In 2007, Chastain began working on the rebuild and widening of a 2-mile section of the Reagan Memorial Tollway (I-88) between IL 83 and York Road, including the completion of the new westbound York Road Toll Plaza.
Chastain performed design engineering services for a new station at Dee Road. The project involved the demolition of the existing station and two businesses and construction of a new warming house, two parking lots with landscaping and lighting, pedestrian platforms, sanitary and storm sewers, and underground detention. Pedestrian flow was directed between the two parking lots, warming house, and platforms with new sidewalks, crosswalks, and ramps.
This project originally began as a group of tasks to develop a dredging site for Basin 1 in Lake Decatur, the basin where water is drawn to be treated at the South Water Treatment Plant. The project developed into an effort to not only site a dredge basin, but to consider alternate sources of water and to develop a plan to increase the water storage capacity for the community to offset extended periods of drought.
Chastain performed the design and construction engineering services to improve Hassert Boulevard from a two lane rural highway to a four lane boulevard street with curb and gutter, closed drainage system, street lighting and landscaping.
Chastain assisted the members of the Local Sustainability Team providing a Sustainable Master Plan to the City of Decatur. This Master Plan was presented to the Decatur City Council on November 1, 2010.
