Welcome to Lake Barrington Academy of Stars! We are conveniently located near Northwest Hwy at 22102 Pepper Road in Lake Barrington. We offer a morning enrichment preschool and Kindergarten program from 9:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m or with a hot lunch option til 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Children may attend Monday, Wednesday, Friday or Tuesday, Thursday or 5 days per week. We also have an extended day program for working parents from 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Our Mission at Lake Barrington Academy of Stars is to provide a nurturing, stimulating and academically challenging environment where each child can develop self confidence, build new friendships and develop at his or her own pace. Our teachers are selected carefully, are trained and educated in early childhood, CPR, first aid and are also required to keep current in continuing education. We have an open door policy and welcome children of all races, nationality, sex and religion. We teach respect for people of all religions, races and nationalities. We welcome tolerance, diversity and respect for one another.

We offer a year round program including preschool, a full day Kindergarten, a before and after school program and unique summer camp. We are licensed with the State of Illinois Department of Children and Family Services for children ages two through twelve. We are also in the process of National Accreditation with N.A.C. (National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs). Listed below are a few program options depending on the age of each child:

Toddler program for ages 2 and 3 – emphasis is on social skills, developing independence, self- confidence; increasing communication skills and creativity. Daily activities are prepared to allow each child experiences in art, music, story time, dramatic play and language development. Phonetic awareness, letters, shapes, colors and numbers are reviewed. Curriculum includes early literacy, math, science, and hands on activities. Experiments, and a mix of child and teacher guided activities are introduced daily. Music, art, story time, journals and other learning activities are a part of each day.

Full Day Kindergarten Topics include Math, Science, Early Literacy (Jolly Phonics), Art, Music (private piano lessons are optional), Social Studies, and Dramatic Play. Standards are designed to meet or exceed School District 220 and the Illinois State Standards. Assessments are done twice a year for each child to track individual growth and development. Parent conferences are conducted in the Fall and in the Spring if necessary.

Before and After School and Kindergarten program is offered for students attending Roslyn Road or Countryside School in Barrington. A snack, assistance with homework and age appropriate activities are offered.. Private piano lessons are also available at an additional fee.

Summer Camp for School Age children between ages of 5 12 offered during June through August. We provide a unique combination of outdoor fun and academic workshops.

A Core Program – is offered Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and is available for children ages two through five. Morning preschool, hot lunch an afternoon quiet time, snack and creative activities are included. This enrichment program includes hands on weekly themes, with emphasis on simple math, early literacy, science, daily music and art.

Morning Preschool class is available from 9:00 a.m. 11:30 a.m. Combinations include Monday/Wednesday and Friday, Tuesday and Thursday combinations or a full five day per week schedule. A lunch option till 12:30 p.m. is also available which includes a nutritious, catered lunch.

You have to love children to work at the Academy of Stars! All of our teachers have taken courses in early childhood education or have worked with children in the past. All teachers go through a screening process which includes a background check. We also support our teachers that are continuing their education. All teachers must keep current in continuing education courses and seminars. We provide First Aid and CPR training to our teachers and use the Creative Curriculum in our early childhood program. Teachers are free to expand and develop specific lesson plans to promote skills in early literacy, math, science and social – emotional development. Our goal is for each day to be an adventure of learning and curiosity.

The director, Noreen Stass is a graduate of DePaul University in Chicago, IL with a major in Business Administration and undergraduate and graduate level courses in Early Childhood. She opened the Academy of Stars back in 2003 with the help of her husband who is a CPA and also holds a Masters of Accounting Degree from DePaul University. Both Noreen and Ed live in the area with their two sons, Darren and Ryan.
