COTC Members & Friends: Are your kids out of school ALL week? If so, we have a time of fun & fellowship planned! 4th graders and older are invited to join us Tuesday, Nov. 23 1:00--2:30 p.m. (Younger children can participate if 1 parent stays with them.) Meet at the COTC facility. Participants will go to nearby neighborhoods to hang Advent worship invitations on the doors of homes then return to the COTC facility for cookies & cocoa. Pastor Jule & Cindy Emmerling will be leading this activity. Contact one of them with questions and by Monday at noon if you plan to attend.
COTC & SPRING OF LIFE PARTNERSHIP HOUSE REHAB: Deconstruction Ends, Construction Begins! COTC’s next work day will be November 20. Notify Stu Rutter or Art Arriaga if you can help. ALSO 2 fundraising projects to begin: SOL volunteers will start gift-wrapping at 4 area bookstores the day after Thanksgiving. AND “Friendship Soup” mix will soon be available. The soup mix is a great off-the-shelf meal for busy households as well as Christmas or hostess gifts. Add a pound of meat, a can of tomatoes, and water and you have a pot of soup!
Don and LuAnn Olson wish to thank everyone for the prayers, calls, cards, meals, and MUCH appreciated support during the weeks since Don’s surgery. Thank you very much COTC!!!
SESSION NEWS: New for January 2011: In an effort to reduce costs and be better stewards of the environment, our monthly Crosswords newsletter will begin to be emailed to those on our distribution list for whom we currently have an email address (a reduction of nearly 200 mailed copies and 400 11x17 pieces of paper each month). Recipients of Crosswords have the option to continue to receive the newsletter via postal mail by contacting the church office with this request by December 15, 2010. Those without emails will continue to receive paper copies of Crosswords, which also can be viewed on our website or picked up in the narthex. Contact Pastor Jule with questions and the church office if we have your email but you want to continue to receive a paper copy of Crosswords.
Session has authorized the Property Committee to engage a professional to identify and repair the sanctuary roof leak as the next large undertaking of caring for our facility. This repair is to be paid for with money from investments without intent to repay. The goal is to have the repair made by November 30, 2010.
The Grateful Disciples Committee is researching The Manna Group fundraising program to be offered soon – hopefully through the holiday season – with monies going to our general operating fund. You can put your everyday shopping dollars to work by purchasing gift cards through Church of the Cross for many grocery and department stores as well as gas stations and movie theaters. Program details will follow in upcoming announcements. Contact Judy Carney with questions.
