Jim Ballowe will be in store to present his holiday book, Christmas in Illinois. It explores the holiday customs of Christmas distinctive to our state, as remembered by Illinoisians such as Carl Sandburg, Gwendolyn Brooks, Sandra Cisneros, Mike Royko and many others. Included are tales, poems, news reports, memoirs, recipes and images. Best of all for many of our Book Stall friends is an essay by retired New Trier High School Music Department head Ted Klinka, telling the story of the mammoth holiday concerts performed every December at the school.

Libby Hellmann’s latest thriller, Set the Night on Fire, is set in Chicago and has a holiday hook.
