The acronym HVAC stands for Heating, Ventilating, and Air Conditioning. We couldn’t build substantial modern buildings without it. The fundamental idea of HVAC is to provide comfort to the occupants and with it a conditioning of the indoor air quality.
HVAC isn’t just heating and skokie air conditioner repair, though it certainly provides those. The entire system provides a means to control the temperature, replenish oxygen, and remove moisture, odors, and several other items that are deleterious to health, such as smoke, excess heat, dust, airborne bacteria, and carbon dioxide. Ventilation systems move air removing moisture and odor. They introduce outside air, feed it to conditioning systems, and move it about the building preventing stagnation.
Establishing commercial HVAC isn’t merely the installation of a unit and attaching it to a building. That might work for small buildings. Larger buildings have engineered HVAC systems. Contractors must determine the capacity of a building and then engineers must analyze that data and come up with a design to determine a specific HVAC system.
Every HVAC is different. It’s tailored to the building where it is to be installed. The fabrication of the system must then be done and installed according to local codes. This means building permits and code inspections for compliance.
Brilliant Electric Heating and Cooling provides services for commercial HVAC systems from advice on design, through installation, to the regular servicing that will be necessary to keep the system operable.
Ventilation distributes that heat or air. Furnaces often do not provide complete combustion, resulting in the emission of several gases, notably carbon monoxide, which is tasteless and odorless and a detriment to yourhealth.
The potential existence of carbon monoxide requires adequate ventilation to the outdoors. Carbon monoxide can cause headaches, nausea, fatigue, and vomiting. It reduces the blood’s ability to distribute oxygen to the body, potentially causing heart attacks. Ventilation, includes the exchange of air between inside and outside of the building as a means to maintain air quality within the building.
Once installed, HVAC systems will require routine maintenance, and for this Brilliant Electric Heating and Cooling is, for thelackofabetterword, brilliant. They maintain all types of HVAC systems, including mechanical or “forced” movement provided by air handlers. Excess humidity, odors, and contaminants are filtered, diluted, or replaced by outside air. In the humid climate that is Chicagoland, the HVAC system will also be able to remove excess moisture from the building thereby improving air comfort.
The HVAC system cools by removing heat from the building through radiation, convection, or conduction. To do so may require water, air, ice, and chemicals as refrigerants. Those refrigerants are compressed in heat pumps.
There are other ways to move air, of course. Kitchens and bathrooms may have exhaust fans that will move the air to the outside, replenishing it with air from inside the building. In this case, Brilliant can help to select a mechanical exhaust system with the appropriate flow rate and noise level.
Then there is the reversible ceiling fan. The idea is to reduce the perceived temperature by adjusting the moisture of the skin. Because heat rises, hot air can be circulated upward toward the cooler ceiling in the summertime and returned to the room in the wintertime.
Of course, a building may be naturally ventilated simply by opening doors and windows, exchanging outdoor air for indoor air without the use of fans or distributing ductwork. Factories are often cooled by opening the higher windows and allowing the hotter air to escape at the top. These will require some fan mechanisms for air movement, and can be a part of the commercial HVAC mechanism. They do little for thermal comfort however.
